Preliminary Task- Camera Work

In our short film we found the camera work was very successful. We understood that different shots and angles give different effects for example the shot reverse shot is at an eyeliner angle and therefore represents the two individuals as equal. We were able to keep the 180 degree rule during the film however, it was sometimes confusing to understand this rule and therefore took us longer to film, however now that we understand it too our full potential we will be able to film our thriller opening better. We found that our best shots were the shot reverse shots. I found this easy to understand and therefore we completed this element successfully.

Here is an example of these shots;

As part of the task we were asked to make sure to include match on action, this is so that it had continuity and flowed well. I feel like we met this aim. During the part when Caitlin walks through the door there are two different shots, we put these shots together filming from outside the door and then her walking in the door. When putting these two shots together we had to be very precise to make sure that the clip had continuity and made sense.

This is an example of the two shots used;

In addition I feel like these two shots could have been better for example we could of shown more of her opening the door from the other side, however it was hard to get the shots perfectly in time. This is something I will work on/ improve when it comes to creating my film opening.

Overall I am happy with our camera shots. I feel like the short film has continuity and looks good, all of the shots make the preliminary video look effective and professional for example the shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.
