Course Work; font/ titles

When choosing what font we wanted in our movie we used the fonts on iMovie. We found it difficult to all decide on a font that we all liked, this then became time consuming however we have now chosen a font that suits the genre and the theme of the film.

We didn't want to include the title in the first scene, this is because we wanted to build up tension within the audience towards the ending, this is then where we added the title Forsaken. To start of with we used the font Seravek Extralight. We chose to put the production company e.g. Lionsgate first, this was because this is the most important piece of information.

We have chosen the actors name to come second, this was because it is important and he plays an important role in the film opening even though he is not included much in the rest of our coursework if we where to create the full movie. When putting font over images we made sure to keep the text away from key features of the moving images for example the door, the persons finger ringing the door bell and the main character walking to the door, this is because it would take away the atmosphere of the opening and may confuse the audience.

We decided to chose white font because the lighting of the shots are very dark, and therefore if it was black then you would be unable to see the writing. I also think that the transition of the font e.g. the moving of the font suits the genre of the film, it is suspicious and mysterious and therefore makes the audience anxious and unsettled. We got the idea of the moving fonts from our font research for example into films such as Insidious and What Lies Beneath, we liked the effect that the moving transition of the fonts e.g. fading and dissolving gives because it creates an atmosphere for the audience.

We also decided to use smaller font for the title of the person, and have the persons name bigger, we really like this effect because it looks professional and effective, we also found this idea from the Insidious opening.

For the finishing of the shots we decided to put the title at the end with no other moving images behind it, this made it seem more dramatic and showed the audience what the movie is about/ going to be about. The last shot faded to black which represents the dark feeling from the opening which then is carried on in the rest of the film.

We chose this font because it suits the genre of the film, it is tense and mysterious and therefore makes the audience unsettled. The font isn't to bold or dramatic however it is noticeable. We were influenced by font in films such as What Lies Beneath and Insidious. We also chose the colour white so that it would contrast from the black background and stand out more.

In addition to the font and images we added an extra "10 years earlier", this was meant to lead on to the rest of the film to represent what was going to happen next, we chose a very simple font for this, due to the fact it isn't as important as the title.
